This is a great opportunity to play a vital role in the institute, strategically developing ODI’s digital platforms and providing oversight and technical guidance on the development of digital products. You will use your knowledge of the latest digital trends to identify opportunities to innovate and improve our communications.
The main purpose of this role is to increase the impact of ODI’s research through the delivery of first-class public affairs and communications, with a focus on delivery of high-quality digital outputs (80% of time) as well as general public affairs and communications tasks (20%)
Main duties and responsibilities
Digital communications lead (80%)
• Create and update SEO-friendly website content for odi.org, including programme website pages, blogs and multimedia, using ODI’s content management system (Drupal)
• Manage programme websites including commissioning and creating content and liaising with external agencies on website development, security and hosting
• Manage programme Twitter/Facebook accounts, including posting content, monitoring conversations and engaging with followers
• Support researchers to develop timely, relevant blogs for publication on odi.org or influential external platforms
• Draft, lay out and send programme email newsletters, and maintain subscriber lists
General communications duties (20%)
The Communications Officer role works flexibly, in accordance with agreed priorities agreed, to support on a range of communications activities, including:
• Support publications planning and production, including: commissioning copyediting, layout and design work; liaising with external suppliers; coordinating with central publications team; and adhering to institutional brand and style guidelines.
• Support the organisation of events, including: marketing, set-up, and logistics; preparation of presentations and briefing notes; coordinating with central events team; and adhering to institutional guidelines.
• Support media and public affairs work, including: responding to media requests; identifying opportunities to amplify research in specialist media or key external events; and coordinating with central media and public affairs team.
• Monitor and log impact of communications activities and implement learnings.
• Input ideas to the strategic communications plan.
